The Overview
The first week of 2010 is in the books! Okay, well only half of it but that’s just as well since I did a pretty half-a$$ed job of getting things done. Traveling back home from the Cape, having some real winter weather and the continued manifestation of my cold all added up to one very uninspiring week.
Thankfully Endurance Nation had a run challenge for the holiday week which kept my motivation high and kept me getting out the door. Otherwise I might have faked a present-unwrapping injury and put myself on the disabled list!
Body Comp Update: Very hard to maintain this week. It’s pretty hard to stay on top of the food when I am not feeling great. Food is definitely a comfort thing for me and being sick makes Swedish Fish incredibly appealing. I did my best, and appear to be right around 179 for the week, but it wasn’t pretty.
Race Update: M signed us up for the Hyannis Half Marathon (Feb), so I had better start putting in some longer runs. My early season goal of ripping a half seems a bit out of reach right now, but who knows what I’ll be able to do once I get healthy again!
The Workouts
Monday — 45′ run in frozen, frozen temps. Still no cold weather mojo yet, so really hurting. I think I could have put on like 4 more layers (pic) and not been warm enough!
Tuesday — 4 x (5 x 30/30s), then 12′ at .85, followed by 1.5 miles in frozen temps to score points for the run challenge. First VO2 workout of the season and not as mentally hard as anticipated. Just weird looking at such different numbers on the powermeter, but relatively manageable.
Wednesday — 4 miles for 6 points in the run challenge, then 30′ on the bike at .8 for good measure because I simply couldn’t stay outside in the cold despite all my new Xmas running gear from Santa.
Thursday — Modified the 30/30s to be 5 x 2′ at 382 as first set on Tuesday was manageable. No way I could have done 2.5′ or 3′ intervals (yet), last one blew up at 370. Finished with 15′ at .85 for a really solid trainer session.
Friday — 7.5 miles on New Years Day…tough day and really sick in the head…just slogged here.
Saturday — Sat trainer ride 2 x 18 as 320, 308. Then 4 x 2′ (1′) at 340. No ABP for me today. Total of .94 for 65 mins. Very short run today of 4 miles to keep run challenge going.
Sunday — 2 x 1.5 miles at TP in the snow. Hard to hit the pace but got good work in…absolutely no desire to add extra time on the bike.
Stats Summary for the Week
Weight: Again back to being stuck at 179. I’ll take it after this past week!
FTP: 320, confirmed with VO2 work ability.
vDOT: Still 55.
CTL: 51.5 TSS/day (previous week was 51 TSS/day), so not a harder week, but another solid one.
TSB: -20.9 (prev as -21.3). Am finding it hard to get in required run intensity in tough winter conditions…might have to sign up at the Y to get in some dreadmill time!
