@Katy -- One shoe??? Been there done that. The other day I had everything except shorts. Just not my day!

@Nathalie -- Thanks for the kind words...the cadence hack is a big favorite of mine...glad you like it!

@JV -- I hear you on the "less than an hour" thing. That said, even just being ready enough for your final 15' pre-run minutes can make a big difference!

I like the pre run organization...got to a run venue all psyched ready to go and realized I only had one shoe!! (we still have snow so I wear boots in the car!) BUMMER! But I visualize all the time and have on occasion visualized a race...and have also needed to slow down because I was I was so in the moment I was actually "sprinting towards the finish line". Maybe a different visual?? haha

Great ideas! I too always organized my gear before a run. I have not visualize before a run and i'm sure it would be helpful..I did my cadence check yesterday( ave 21-20) and more great tips! ! I've learned more in the last two days than a dusty collection of running world mag could offer me!

Thanks!

Great pre-run tips. I don't always have an hour to "prep" but the concepts are useful. I can build a routine that fits my schedule...probably 30min works better.

Organization - I am right there with you. I lay every thing I may need out the night before. That is were the similarities stop.
Last Hour- I don't think I give my self a last Hour. More like last 15'. Pit stop, drink, and go.
Visualization - None to speak of. However, after reading yours, I will be using some
visualization on the next run! Maybe if utilized some Visualization this morning on my long run, it wouldn't have seemed so long!!!
Great Tips Patrick! Thanks...

I am also an early morning runner but typically run about 30 min after getting up in the morning (5am ish). Prep the night before is critical so
I don't wake the baby, my other two rug rats or the wife in the morning. The one thing in which I need to improve upon is hydration. I need to start drinking more while I get ready than I currently do. However, on runs longer than 1 hour I do wear a race belt with fluids and gel.

My mental image.....crossing the finish line at IMLP. When I need to dig that picture is all I need! I literally get the chills every time I do and it makes everything else snap into place.
