Top Triathlon Christmas Gifts for 2009
The giving spirit is in the air, and most likely your friends and family are preparing to do some fierce holiday shopping. But these folks have a shared dilemma — what to get the triathlete who already has everything? Or at least, what to get them other than that new bike they keep leaving pictures of all around the house? (Yes, I caught you…and you are guilty!).
The money conscious can simply fire up a nice holiday-flavored smoothie, but if you’ve got some money in your pocket there’s no shortage of stuff to get. Here’s a short list of some really cool things that any self-respecting triathlete can actually use. They have helped me over the years and I recommend them all the time…Enjoy!
Cycle-Ops Bike Sweat Guard. This is a great gift for that evil trainer living in your bedroom living room um, basement. Sweat is one of the most corrosive things in the triathlon world, and it will eat away at your bolts and cable housing unless you take a moment to protect your bike. Do it.
Garmin Foot Pod. For the GPS-enabled triathlete, this little doohickey will allow them to get cadence while running (very important!) and run indoors while still logging distance and speed (after calibration, of course). View it here.
DailyBurn Food Scanner. We are all trying to stay healthly. Some of us are trying to lose a few pounds. Best way to do that is to know what you are actually putting into your body. DailyBurn’s Food Scanner App for the iPhone allows you to use the built-in camera to scan UPC codes and record the nutritional information for almost any food. Use their online site (optional) to track meals, total calories, etc. Learn more.
Custom Nutrition Bars. Make that special someone feel really special by giving them their own energy bar. Literally. Use the ingredient list to add special flavors and to build a bar as unique as their personality. The price is reasonable and the results are actually really good. Shop here.
FuelBelt Reflective Gear. Running in the winter is a prerequisite to having a solid season. Treadmills are nice but just aren’t the real thing. To make sure your triathlete stays safe in the dark, FuelBelt has a whole line of reflective products, ranging from reflective vests to armbands and attachable lights. All very cool. Get Safety Here.
Give Stuff Away. The best part of the season isn’t the getting (like the marketers tell you), it’s the giving. And it’s not all about spending money either. Take a moment to go through all your old gear and clothes and find things you can donate to a local charity. Here in the US you can use the Salvation Army or Goodwill.
