One of the most frequent requests I get from my athletes – both coached and training plan users – is a listing of “the most important” workouts. If any given week has 18 workouts, folks want to know what the key ones are in order to make sure they can at least get those done. From a coaching perspective it’s hard to choose / discern, but from the athlete’s point of view, it makes perfect sense: “My coach plans for a perfect world, I just don’t happen to live in one.”
The 10Hours approach to training meets this challenge head on by starting with your key workouts first, then progressing down the priority chain. You can read more in the free 20+ page PDF download. But you don’t have to be a 10Hours athlete to take advantage of this strategy…all you have to do is start from the end.
- Know your Key Race for the year, know the terrain, typical conditions, etc.
- Know how you want to perform at that race in each discipline.
- Assess where you are now.
- Outline a road map for your success in each sport.
- Build a plan that has one key workout a week per sport; 1 swim, 1 bike, 1 run.
Every thing else is gravy. The other swims are technique, the other runs are just time building base, etc. If you can nail your Core Workout each week, you’ll be on track for your goals even if life gets in the way.
Do you know what your Core Workouts are this week?
